Jump Rope Workout Burns Fat Fast!

You may not think of a jump rope workout as a critical weapon in your fat-burning arsenal, but let me assure it, it is one of the finest ways to burn fat fast that you can imagine.

Experts agree that interval training, with high intensity workouts followed by a short rest period -- repeated for several series, is the very quickest way to burn fat on the planet! In fact, not only will you burn fat like a furnace, you will also increase speed, hand-eye coordination, endurance, and overall fitness with a jump rope fitness routine.

If you are new to jumping, it may take a bit to get the hang of it. But honestly, with just a little work, you'll be jumping like the pros in no time. The key is to give yourself time to work into it and you can start with three easy steps.

  1. Pick a rope that is the right length for you. Ropes are almost all adjustable, but make sure when you buy one to get one that is. Cotton ropes go slow, so they are good for beginners. My personal favorites are made of plastice, because they go fast and never wear out! you need to be able to stand on the rope with both feet in the middle and raise the handles to just your armpit. Adjust the rope to fit your height.
  2. Start slow. If you are like a lot of us, you haven't really done any rope jumping since you were a kid, so you may not have all the coordination you did then. You should warm up a bit by marching in place. Just get your muscles warm and your heart rate a bit elevated. Then try jumping for thirty seconds and if you miss -- no worries. Just keep jumping. Then follow that with another 30 minute marching period to keep moving but lower the intensity. Then 30 seconds jumping, another 30 seconds marching and so on for about 10 minutes.
  3. Once you've got the hang of it, extend the time for jumping. It almost goes without saying that you should then decrease the time of resting. Within the first two weeks you should get up to about 8 minutes of jumping and only two minutes of resting in a 10 minute workout.
As you really become more confident with your jumping, you can increase the speed substantially. If you bought a cotton rope to begin with, you'll want to change it for something more sleek and there are plenty of options.

When you are at the point where you can jump 10 minutes without stopping, you will be burning more calories than a runner who has run for 30 minutes! Its truly amazing how quickly you can blast the fat with a jump rope workout!
